Why All-Natural, Toxin-Free Living Matters for Your Skin

When we say a product is “toxin-free,” it means it's free of harmful ingredients like parabens, sulfates, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and artificial dyes. These chemicals, while effective in preserving or creating lather and scent, are linked to skin irritation, hormone disruption, and even long-term health issues. In contrast, all-natural products rely on plant-powered ingredients to nourish and treat the skin without side effects or health risks. When you make the shift to toxin-free products, you’re prioritizing ingredients that align with your body’s natural processes.

Soap As Shampoo: The Hidden Risks For Your Hair

Hair is dead. That means the cells that make up your hair cannot regenerate. Once they are damaged to a certain extent there is nothing you can do to fix it. The longer your hair is the older it is and therefore, more potential for damage. Just like your skin, your hair has an acidic pH, but unlike your skin it can't fix a pH imbalance and over time it will deteriorate. That said, you will see why I've listed pH Imbalance as the number 1 reason NOT to use soap on hair.

4 Advantages of Natural Soap vs. Body Washes

Soap has been getting a bad rap for decades. Ever since body washes came on the market and we were told to ditch those clunky bars that are hard to hold onto and melt into a messy glob after a few uses. We fell in love with these giant bottles of highly-scented magic...

In the beginning...

I've always had a passion for plants and a desire to protect the environment. It was compounded in 2012 when my sister with Multiple Sclerosis brought me a book that started me on a vegan journey. The research I did took me from diet-related illness to herbal medicine. It didn't take me long to conclude that the chemicals and toxins we are surrounded by each day are more detrimental to our health than we know. I made it my personal mission to avoid as many chemicals as I could. Of course, the first thing I looked at after what I put in my mouth was what I put on my skin. What I was looking for was not on the market at the time so I had to resort to making my own personal care products. At first, I missed the strongly-scented perfumes and the unnaturally creamy lotions, but soon I began noticing my hair was stronger and my skin was brighter. Now, after almost a decade of good health and more requests than I can count, I am able to bring those products to the people searching for them in a clean, low-waste, sustainable way.

The Balance name has been important to me because life is a balance. It would be impossible to live completely chemical-free or eat only the healthiest of foods, and let's be honest, it wouldn't be any fun either... but if you can replace just one chemical with a plant-derived, good-for-you ingredient then you are already living better.

I hope you love our products as much as I do. Cheers, to living your best life!
