Bakuchiol: The Best Retinol Alternative for Sensitive Skin
Retinol has long been hailed as a skincare powerhouse for its ability to smooth fine lines, boost collagen, and improve skin texture. But for many, it comes with unwanted side effects—redness, peeling, irritation, and increased sun sensitivity. If you have sensitive skin, are pregnant, or prefer plant-based skincare, there’s a gentler, natural alternative that delivers similar benefits: Bakuchiol.
In the beginning...
I've always had a passion for plants and a desire to protect the environment. It was compounded in 2012 when my sister with Multiple Sclerosis brought me a book that started me on a vegan journey. The research I did took me from diet-related illness to herbal medicine. It didn't take me long to conclude that the chemicals and toxins we are surrounded by each day are more detrimental to our health than we know. I made it my personal mission to avoid as many chemicals as I could. Of course, the first thing I looked at after what I put in my mouth was what I put on my skin. What I was looking for was not on the market at the time so I had to resort to making my own personal care products. At first, I missed the strongly-scented perfumes and the unnaturally creamy lotions, but soon I began noticing my hair was stronger and my skin was brighter. Now, after almost a decade of good health and more requests than I can count, I am able to bring those products to the people searching for them in a clean, low-waste, sustainable way.
The Balance name has been important to me because life is a balance. It would be impossible to live completely chemical-free or eat only the healthiest of foods, and let's be honest, it wouldn't be any fun either... but if you can replace just one chemical with a plant-derived, good-for-you ingredient then you are already living better.
I hope you love our products as much as I do. Cheers, to living your best life!
